Popspotting #67: Feedback Friday (June 10, 2011)
If you missed the awesomeness that was the “Battlestar Galactica” reboot, you’ve got another chance. BBC America is going to start running the show as part of its “Supernatural Saturday” lineup beginning tomorrow, June 11. That’s just one of the things we learned today from our listeners during “Feedback Friday.”
Also mentioned, “Galaxy Quest” and “Justified,” plus more love for Lady Gaga, the Foo Fighters, “Modern Family” and “Sons of Anarchy.”
We thrive on feedback, so please don’t hold back. Share your thoughts on movies, TV, music, books, or anything else, and we’ll try to include it in the show! You can leave a voicemail at 815-310-0808, email us at feedback@popspotting.net, or comment here on the blog, on Facebook, or on Twitter.
When you mentioned “Martin Freeman was most famous for…” I thought you were going to mention the British version of The Office! 🙂 However, I guess since the Brit version is not exactly a mainstream hit here, Love Actually is probably what he’s more known for in the States. But for me, I know him as Tim from The Office. 🙂 He also had a cameo in Shaun of the Dead along with the actress who played Dawn in The Office. It was a fun cameo.
Re: Stargate SG-1, of course I hope you get a chance to check out the series. It might help to know that Richard Dean Anderson (best known as Macguyver, of course) brings a lot of humor to the show from the first episode onwards. The first few episodes are rough, as the characters and actors find their stride, but eventually they display the teamwork and affection that is the core of the show. There are episodes that are downright hilarious (intentionally!), and the Deluise family name (Dom, Peter, and Michael) appears many times.
Our narrow America-centric outlook strikes again. Thanks for the background. Ah, yes, “Shaun of the Dead”! Forgot that one. Didn’t even realize the “Office” connection in “Shaun” until you mentioned it!
Thanks for the vote, Fred! I guess I’m intimidated a bit by how big this universe seems to be, with variations on stars and gates and the like. I’ve lost track of where it all started, and whether or not other shows are part of the same franchise. Wikipedia to the rescue!
If you’ve never seen “Stargate” the movie, that might be a quick entry point, to let you know if you are interested. As a bonus, you can see James Spader in a sci fi role (picked up in the SG-1 series by Michael Shanks). As with the Star Trek series, the original SG1 differs from Atlantis and then SGU in terms of characters and overall tone, but there is a common history.
