Popspotting #54: “Fringe†on FOX (May 24, 2011)
It’s no “LOST,” but after “LOST,” J.J. Abams’ “Fringe” was and remains our favorite network show. It brings unabashed sci-fi with decent plots, strong characters, and great actors. It even survived a move to a traditionally deadly Friday timeslot. With Season 3 just ended, we’ll probably talk more frequently about “Fringe” once Season 4 gets underway, but this is our introductory overview to hopefully encourage those who might be on the fence to dive in.
Do you love “Fringe”? What the heck do you think that season finale means, and where do you think we’ll go next season?
We’re aiming for short chats of ten minutes or so. But is that too short, even if we post an episode more often? Note that things might get more substantial as we have more feedback to incorporate. But as we’re still feeling our way, your early thoughts on how things are going is very important to us. Thank you for listening!
Ryan and Jen, loving that you are discussing Fringe. Â Finally, you have become fans! Â Best show since Lost and I loved the ending. Â Jen, think you are on target with your theory…..I suspect Peter is real but in some sort of time warp that Walter is manipulating. Â I don’t buy that he never existed.
This reminds me of your first short lost podcasts! Â Great to have you back!

Just listened to this episode. Love it! I wouldn’t mind at all if you guys decide to do a Fringe podcast, a la The Transmission. 😀 I’m partial to longer podcasts, so if you had a poll, I would vote for longer episodes, but I guess sprinkling in shorter podcasts with my regular “long-form” shows would add nice listening variety. Looking forward to the next episodes.Â
Thanks, Cheryl! After not even trying to keep podcasts to under an hour with “The Transmission,” aiming for 10-15 minute bites is a big change for us. As a listener myself, I like daily podcasts quite a bit (because it can take me more than a day or two to finish an hour-long show).
I don’t think we’ll ever do another single-topic show, but you can be assured that we’ll talk about “Fringe” again, and more often when the new series starts.
They better have Joshua Jackson back as a regular, or there’ll be riots! Just now sure how they’ll explain it. Will he go full ghost-spirit as he did partway through last season? If he’s physically present in some universe, who would have been his parents if not Walter and his wife?

I felt Lost without you…Anyway, I think TV Tuesday (or is that TiVo Tuesday) is a great idea for an ongoing theme.What about Movie Monday (or Music Monday), TV Tuesday, Web Wednesday, Thinking Thursday (book reviews), Fast Friday (top 10s)? I could see a daily short show as a great plus.Also I like the 5 stars from each of you which total a possible 10.
